Tidy Town
Tidy
Town is an ongoing initiative with the Nelson City
Council to make it a cleaner and safer place.
It involves an operator and van that
provide a full time community contract to remove litter,
graffiti and dirt from the city and certain surrounds.
Another person is employed part time to remove litter,
from the City streets parks and footpaths within the
CBD, using a litter cart.
Accomplishments
In 2003/2004 the project boasts
the following accomplishments:
- Removal 454 pieces of graffiti
- Removal 223 tags
- Removal of offensive posters from
poster towers each fortnight
- Cleanup and removal of
650 bags and one truck load of rubbish from the
central business district, streams and walkways
Community Service
It also creates opportunities
for Community Service such as:
- Work Experience and Volunteer
work
- Police Youth Aid, Child, Youth
and Family
- Restorative Justice, Diversion
- Special Needs, Donations
